TIN MỪNG CHO NGƯỜI TRẺ: BEING A GOOD STEWARD and BEING HONEST
Jesus told his disciples a story about a rich man who had a manager, and the manager was using the man’s money for himself. When the rich man discovered that the manager was wasting his money, he called him in and fired him. When the manager was about to lose his job, he made up a plan to make some friends who could help him when he was out of work. He went to all the people who owed his employer. He found out how much they each owed, and said they could pay a much smaller amount, if they paid now. These people were happy to pay a fraction of what they owed, and the manager became their friend since he gave them a discount.
What Jesus is telling us through this parable is that we should use the money and things we have on earth to make friends with God and the saints so that they will be happy to take us into Heaven when we die and have nothing left.
How can you make friends with God using your money? First of all, God wants us to be good stewards. That means spending money when it is good or necessary, and not foolishly. We can also please God by giving money to the Church and the poor.
Jesus also wants to teach his disciples about honesty. He said to them, “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.” He wants us to show that we can do well looking after small things like money so that He can trust us with bigger jobs.
If you and I make sure that we are honest in the small things, then we can be sure that we will be honest in the big things. If people know that they can trust us in small things, they will know that they can trust us in the big things too.
We ask God to help us remember what Jesus taught about honesty, and help us to be honest in every situation, big or small.
